The Programme

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE INTERREG III B ARCHIMED PROGRAMME

The general objective of the Programme is to improve the territorial integration of the cooperation area of the Central and South-Eastern Mediterranean, and to contribute at the Barcellona process through actions finalized to create a free trade area euro-mediterranean.

The programme aim to the following specific objectives:

  • spatial planning at the international level in order to promote polycentric and sustainable development;
  • improvement of access to the European transport and energy Networks and to the information society;
  • promotion, improvement and maintenance of natural cultural and environmental heritage.

The eligible areas are as follows:

  • Central Mediterranean, Greece (Entire Country), five regions of Italy: Campania, Basilicata, Sicilia, Puglia, Calabria.
  • South Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus (Entire Country), Malta (entire Country), Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Palestinian Authority, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Libya.

The Programme has the following fundamental characteristic:

  • compatibility with the general principles and objectives of the Interreg III B Programme;
  • complementary with the European and regional politics;
  • coherence with the other regional instruments to financing (for example MEDA).

Interreg III B Archimed is compound in Priority Axes and Measures:

  • Priority Axis 1: Strategies for spatial development, development of urban systems and integration of the island and rural areas
    • MEASURE 1. Elaboration of the prospects for spatial planning management at the transnational level
    • MEASURE 2. Assistance for urban centres, rural areas and growth of cooperation between them
    • MEASURE 3. Assistance of the competitiveness of rural areas
    • MEASURE 4. Strengthening of the economic integration of island areas and sustainable management of coastal areas
  • Priority Axis 2: Transport and telecommunication networks – Information Society
    • MEASURE 1. Development of effective and sustainable transportation systems
    • MEASURE 2. Upgrading the access to the Information Society
  • Priority Axis 3: Integrated and sustainable management of cultural and natural resources and landscapes
    • MEASURE 1. Protection, planning and management of natural resources and landscapes
    • MEASURE 2. Protection, reformation, planning and management of the cultural heritage
